CEO’s MESSAGE

My family and I sincerely appreciate the various efforts generated from everyone throughout 2019. Closing off 2019 creates questions, some appear rhetoric whilst many others, the answers lie closer than imagined.


Undoubtedly, we have all come through unscathed in 2019. Looking back, we ask what could each of us had done to finish off 2019 with greater difference? If there was one thing that I could have done, what could be that one thing?


On an inspirational note, the divine decision made in heaven for God’s own begotten Son to come and be the ransom for mankind was the ONE thing that the whole of heaven bowed down to, to make a difference in the lives of all mankind.


It is my earnest prayer that each discover what could have and could still be your best choice of that one thing to make a great difference in your employment career with the Palu group of Companies, your workmates, your superior and above all your relationship with your maker.


Now that 2019 has gone and we welcome 2020, let us stay in tune with what the great Christian pioneer of the first century said: “12 Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. 13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus”. Philippians 3:12-14 (NKJV)

CLOSING OF 2019

Closing of 2019 happened in styles only akin to nature. Cyclone Sarai did her rounds between the Fiji group and Tonga, whilst a whirlwind created havoc in part of central Ha’ateiho. The words of a descendant of Bounty’s Captain Bligh echoes back constantly: “When you are against the elements you shall know how mortal you are”.

 

Internally within the company, the expected arrival of Fiji’s Northern Air’s EMB110 to assist in addressing our domestic needs indicate the demands we face together in tackling the challenges of 2020. Santa clause came to the rescue in the timely arrival and release of the SAAB replacement engine on Christmas day. For the New year, we can begin by embracing this promise:

 

Through the Lord’s mercies, we are not consumed. Because His compassions fail not.

 

They are new every morning;

Great is Your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23

COMPETENCY IN THE WORKPLACE

HR Team in 2019

We have arrived at the end of the year, as we look back, we are humbled and grateful.

 

Our department started the year with four (4) staff, our capable manager Ms. ‘Elina ‘Akau’ola, Miss Heleni Vi, Miss Uini Manuel and Miss Mele Lavemai. In February, we added Ms. Siosepa Tatafu to the team as the team supervisor. Because career development is one of HR’s main functions, there has been many changes, transfers  and new recruitment within the group inclusive of  the  HR  department.  Movements in HR saw Mele Lavemai’s transfer to Sky computers as their new office administrator and Miss Heleni Vi took to the skies as a new flight attendant trainee. In October we recruited Mrs. Simulata ‘Ofahengaue to the team.

 

This year had its own trials and as a team we have risen to the challenges. During this festive season in celebration of the birth of our Saviour, we are reminded of great love, humility and obedience.

 

For 2019 we thank you all for the support, and we apologise for any shortfalls. We would like to wish all staff of Palu Aviation Services a very Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.

NEW PALU STUDIO APARTMENT IN TONGATAPU

The brand new Palu Apartment, located at the Eastern shoreline-end of Nuku’alofa was officially opened on the evening of December 16th, 2019. This is one of the Palu Group of Companies’ achievements for the year 2019. Members of the Company Board of Directors, the CEO, staff, family and friends gathered to celebrate this new business entity. For the CEO, this was once a dream but now, a mission accomplished!

 

Located close to the edge of the waters, facing a stretch of blue, the Six Fully furnished apartments enjoy the best of all beautiful sunrises in the Island Kingdom. Its secured neighborhood relaxes ones stressful day even with a minute walk to the nearby park.

PALU GROUP FAMILY-SAMOA

This closing month we had a successful meeting with Sefo Mulipola, marketing manager of Samoa Post office. They agreed to use our service to deliver their mail to /from Tonga, and we are happy to do our best to serve them to the best.

 

We are also privileged to host a visit for our CEO, where we entertained him on our last dinner to taste the buffet curry at the Taumeasina Resort. Dining here with myself are Mr. ‘Aisake Manu, CEO Part 145 and our CEO, Mr. Tevita Palu.

 

On late November ramp inspection was conducted with the team from CAD, Brendalynn Neufeldt(CAD) and Bryan Lockie from PASO. Satisfying our own auditor, as in Mr. Sabin Singh, was very testing. At the same time, like him, they remind us of the levels our operation should always be in and there is to zero tolerance on complacency.

COPING WITH CHANGES

Team Commercial

These past months have been quite engaging with some official teams of Commercial department where the international IATA Accredited and affiliated TTI personnel have on hand with training staff introducing the new system for reservation.

 

A progressive report on TTI, includes: incorporated in 2001, headquartered in Paris, France: In 2002, launched their first customer: Air Antilles (3S) In 2005, partnership with Amadeus IT Group worldwide 2006, TTI certified IATA Strategic Partner 2007, extended their presence in Latin America (Brazil) 2011, inaugurated their subsidiary in Asia (Singapore) 2014, launched their enhanced version of their Passenger Service System (PSS) : Zenith® 2016, inaugurated their latest subsidiary in Central America (Panama) 2018, launched their international cargo solution : Nexlog®

 

They are different in these specific areas, which include: Multicultural environment enabling better understanding of customer needs worldwide. Their employees have airline backgrounds. From experience, they can help their customers better define their projects and provide insights on the necessary steps they can take to reach their goals. Their helpdesk is available 24/7. 2019 – THE YEAR THAT WAS! Maintenance & Planning

To relook and review Year 2019, the Maintenance department has been through a whirlwind of growth and challengers. As always, the Engineering team has always took the challengers and faced them hands on. Throughout the Year the Engineering Department: Maintenance and 145 Maintenance Provider has worked together to ensure that the Aircraft is Placed in service “Serviceable”, every time the aircraft is scheduled for a flight. In order for us to achieve our daily goals the team maintain all REALtonga Aircraft to Tonga Civil Aviation Standard (which is an extension of New Zealand Standards).

 

The Team is made up of a few Licensed Individual with a combine experience of over 20 Years and few aircraft engineering mechanics who have been trained in Fiji and New Zealand in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering. Also, the department has a few aircraft enthusiasts who are currently training with us, who have mechanical and electrical background, awaiting their chance to be sponsored by the company to attain an Aircraft

 

Maintenance Certificate. The Departments has roughly 25 staff that looks after the

 

Three operational aircraft and two non-operational aircraft.

 

The Year started with a bang and the company saw many improvements and new adventures, the department went through management change and is proud of our new found leader Uluaki Taumalolo as the Maintenance Controller, REALtonga opening new services to Suva, introduction of the new Cessna for the Planned First Flying School for Tonga and getting ready for the IOSA venture of the company. With new but welcoming development our engineering team with our Leaders Mr. Uluaki Taumalolo and Mr. ‘Aisake Manu, our boys gladly worked and enjoyed the extra work and confidence it brings. But for every development, we did expect some setback and 2019 had 2 major Challengers, as our work horse the SAAB 340 was grounded due to maintenance defect:

 

1.      February 2019 - Aircraft was grounded for 1 week

2.      December 2019- Aircraft was grounded for almost 3 weeks

 

To our valued customers we sincerely apologise, for the trouble and emotional confusion we have caused, but we like to say that all decisions to Ground the aircraft was to ensure your safety and well-being at all times. We like to extend our gratitude for your patience as this happen during our busiest period. To explain our recent Aircraft Grounding, during Maintenance Inspection of the Engines early December, engineers found that a part need to be replaced in our LH Engine and as the part can only be replaced in an Approved Facility, the Maintenance Controller and the Engineering Manager Grounded the aircraft and started working on replacing the engine. The major delay in our maintenance was to the scarcity of procuring a new engine and the transporting of such engine to our tiny Kingdom. The Engineers started preparing for replacing the engine on the 24th of December as the engine will arrive on the 25th December and as soon as the engine arrived our Team worked tirelessly to get the aircraft back to service by the 26th December.

 

Again, we thank you very much for being part of engineering in 2019 and we pray for many more endeavours in 2020.

 

 


ARE YOU WALKING WITH JESUS TODAY?

An Inspirational message From Pununga Mo’ui

As we approach the end of the 2019 year, we praise Almighty God for having brought us this far, through the ‘roughs’ and ‘toughs’ of the year’s daily routines. We also praise God that for another year’s journey, whereby, with His protection and guidance, all divisions of the Palu Air Services and the Real Tonga Airlines launched their duties and services gladly with diligence and cheerfulness. Above all, we praise God for the wonder of His love and mercy towards our daily airborne flights throughout this year that no accidents did occur to cause any harm or loss of life! Praise be to His wonderful Name!

 

The Pununga Mo’ui staff has come through this 2019 year having had Discipleship training sessions with most of you who are employed by the Palu Air Services and Real Tonga Airlines, either at Peteli Training Centre or at the Pununga Mo’ui office at Fasi-moe-Afi.

 

The Discipleship training was concentrated on three important factors.

 

Firstly, what is the Bible? Secondly; man’s status in his relationship with God, leading to his need of salvation. Thirdly; once saved, we need to commit ourselves to an active daily walk with our Lord Jesus Christ in His Word.

 

At this opportunity, I would like to ask every Discipleship trainee, this important question. I would also like to make this question as my Christmas message for you all. The question is,

 

ARE YOU WALKING WITH JESUS TODAY?

 

Everyone who has undergone some discipleship training this year, need no further explanation as to the meaning of the above question. Walking with Jesus begins with spending time with God in His Word every day. Committed Christians set aside a particular time of everyday to reading, studying, meditating, praying and application/ obedience to God’s Word on that day. This particular activity is referred to as your ‘QUIET TIME’.

 

My Christmas message for us all is this . . . As a Christian who has received Jesus Christ as your Saviour and Lord, if you want to truly grow to maturity in your Christian life, and if you desire a “WINNING walk” in your Christian journey in this world here and now, you must commit yourself to having a faithful and active daily ‘QUIET TIME’. The Word of God says in Hebrews 4 verse 12, “For the Word of God is quick and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

 

Only then, can we confidently say, “Yes, I’m walking with my Lord Jesus today!”

 

Our Lord Jesus Christ said in Matthew 4:4. . . “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.”

 

May you all have a blessed Christmas and a prosperous New Year!
