Five Years On
We have COME
On Monday, 11thMarch 2013, with a leased Y12 Aircraft from Air Vanuatu, REALtonga launched its first Commercial Domestic Service in Tonga. For the country, an air service was needed to continue when Chathams Pacific ended its five years’ service on Saturday 09thMarch. For the sole owner of the Airline and the Palu Aviation group of Companies, it was a vision being materialized and embraced. The aircraft lease from Air Vanuatu was under ACMI. This was later supported with a leased Fairchild Metroliner.
REAltonga advanced its commitment to providing air service in purchasing two other aircraft, the Britten Norma Islander (BN2) and a Queen Air to support the operation in 2013. The People of China’s offer of MA60 was also introduced and became part of the fleet. In an attempt to substitute the MA60, a J32 aircraft was introduced. The entry of the SAAB 340 was also added for the same purpose.
We are HERE
REALtonga has progressed steadily with a fleet consisting of 1 x SAAB 340, 1 X MA60, 1 X Y12, and 1 x BN2, a total of four aircraft. The airline has employed a number of expatriate LAME, AME and Air Crew along with local licensed individuals. A new extension to the original hanger has been built to accommodate the administration and management team of the airline.
FIVE YEARS ON
On 11thMarch 2018, the airline has successfully completed its five years continuous service to the country. It has its inaugural service to the region with Faleolo Airport, Apia, Samoa as its first pioneer regional destination. Sights are focused on other closer to home regional destinations in the foreseeable future. With that in the limelight an additional SAAB 340 is in the planning. With the venture to have IOSA certification, codeshare agreements with Fiji Airways and Air New Zealand are expected with the SAAB 340 and the Y12 assigned for the Domestic operation.
